80's Decline

The 1980's began brightly enough, with the new John Ireland stand dominating Molineux, all be it from a distance..

The distant John Ireland Stand.. Please don't ask about the red seats...

The John Ireland rear.

"More cemetery than symmetry" How the ground appeared after the old Molineux Street stand had been demolished and replaced with the John Ireland stand on the right of picture. The pitch has been move across towards the new stand: It would be moved further over again. The North Bank and Waterloo road stands were derelict, although the club was still allowed to use the (basic) facilities (offices, changing room etc.) inside the Waterloo road stand.

The back of the North Bank. The club shop was built into the rear.

The mighty South Bank.... In it's heyday it held over 30,000. Thanks to crowd segregation it's capacity when finally closed was around just half that. It was used for the last time, v Millwall on Saturday 1st May, 1993.

The derelict, but still impressive North Bank, the traditional home end of Molineux.
